Matchday Thirteen Review

Another weekend down and amazingly as we start to approach the climax of the season there is no clue at all as to who might actually win it, with the top four now all being separated by just three points. And yes, you guessed it, they are all facing-off next weekend in what is going to be the biggest day of action the Caribbean Mega League has seen so far.

The top two, who are level on points, goal difference, goals scored and conceded, both managed a home win in the latest matchday but the big winners of the weekend were Moko-Jumbies FC who thrashed Spicy Doves at Sugar Lane in a match highlighted by Kimaree Rogers and his involvement in three of the fours goals. With an unbeaten run standing at three games in the run up to this one, the hosts started well against the Grenadan side and it was Rogers who unsurprisingly opened the scoring halfway through the first forty-five as his twenty-fourth minute header was complement ten minutes later as he nodded on to his strike partner Javeim Blanchette to fire home a shot that in all truth should have been kept out by Shaddai Mark in the Big Nutz goal. In the second-half the Kitt Men continued to throw balls into the box and after Rogers notched his second, substitute Keithroy Freeman made it four and gave the Moko-Jumbies fans a lot to scream and shout about.

Over at the Levi Roots Arena in Jamaica, Jamrock Juniors were also in good form as they saw off midtable side Redonda Rockys in a 2-0 win. The usual suspects were to thank for the points and despite star defender Ajeanie Talbott missing through suspension Jamtastic seventh win and also their seventh clean sheet of the season. An early volley from Jabari Hylton set the hosts on their way thanks to an outstanding Ajay Chin diagonal ball through the centre of Da Rockz defensive line, before old boy Newton Sterling finished things up with a header to net his sixth of the campaign. The win just about keeps Jamtastic above Moko-Jumbies on a head-to-head results basis.

Over in the Dominican Republic, Tom Meadowcroft seems to be continuing to struggle with the pressure of managing the former leaders as Republican Rabbits made it five games without a win thanks to a 1-1 draw at home to Limbo Leopards. Suriname Sharks on the other hand are now five unbeaten after a 0-0 draw away at Bermuda Tempest, whilst Dominica Dominoes went back to their usual poor form in a soulless 0-2 defeat at home to title chasing Vodou People. The final match of the day came from Barbados as Ajax Oranjestad’s Dwaynlex Raven became the third player of the season to get a red card in the 1-0 home win for Bajan Boppers.

As mentioned at the start of the report, next weekend is the big one, with Republican Rabbits hoping to end a poor run and go back to the top against current leaders Jamrock Juniors, whilst Vodou People and Moko-Jumbies FC also do battle in a match that could see either team leapfrog Jamtastic. In a matchday that also sees fifth place Suriname Sharks travel to sixth place Limbo Leopards, there could be a lot of movement in the table in the upcoming week. In the lower realms, Redonda Rockys should be ready to jump into the top half if they can win against visiting Dominica Dominoes, whilst Bajan Boppers will hope to stay above the relegation spaces as they take on Spicy Doves. Matchday Fourteen will be completed in Aruba as Ajax Oranjestad will hope to do better next week as they take on second-bottom Bermuda Tempest.
