Just as we’d all calmed down from last weekend’s bumper action line-up it was time to get back out to the grounds of the Caribbean Mega League and chow down on another great week of action and after featuring in game of the season last week, Republican Rabbits and Jamrock Juniors were yet again the best performing teams of the week as both looked to keep the pressure on current leaders Vodou People.
Following on from the thrilling 2-2 draw over in the Domincian Republic, Jamrock Juniors were back at Levi Roots Arena and would welcome Will Clarks’ Limbo Leopards who were unbeaten in five games in the run up to this one. Jamtastic were well up for this match and knowing that they needed to be ready to overtake Vodou People should the chance arise, Jabari Hylton vollied home a stunning early goal after an equally excellent Kemar Philpotts pass to give the home side an early lead. In a match where Jamtastic amassed a whopping thirty-one shots, two long-range strikes would soon see the visitors disappearing into the distance as Joel Senior and Newton Sterling ensured a 3-0 half-time lead. The dominance continued into the remainder of the game until the seventieth minute when Andrei Pacheco grabbed his second goal in two weeks to give the Leopards a lifeline with what would inevitably be their only shot on target throughout the match. Daz Knapton clearly wasn’t happy to concede after the otherwise faultless display and so he shouted his lads forward and yet again it was the golden oldie Newton Sterling who responded as he nodded home his ninth of the season to finish things off at 4-1.
Over in Dominica we would be treated to round two of “El Dominicano” as a resurgent Dominica Dominoes couldn’t replicate their performance from last weekend’s win as they succumbed to a 0-2 defeat to Republican Rabbits who finally ended their own baron run of six without victory. There was little surprise in the LIME Stadium to see the opener hit home by lethal striker Juan Vélez in the first-half, before Erick Ozuna finished things off just before the hour mark in a massively confident display, more akin to what we were used to seeing until recently. The much needed win for Tom Meadowcroft’s men sees them creep back into third, but they remain four points adrift of top spot.
New leaders Vodou People remain in pole position after Matchday Fifteen thanks to a 1-0 win against Bajan Boppers, with Frantz Moise nabbing the only goal in Barbados. In the basement battle between tenth and eleventh, Bermuda Tempest won their first match in six attempts as they beat Spicy Doves 2-1 to move level on points with Sophie Dibbens’ strugglers. The final two fixtures of the round ended as stalemates as the Dutch Derby between Suriname Sharks and Ajax Oranjestad was 1-1 just like the reverse tie and Moko-Jumbies FC limped through a goalless home game against ten-man Redonda Rockys.
More big games will follow next week as the top two face the bottom two, with Jamrock Juniors hosting Dominica Dominoes and Vodou People welcoming Bermuda Tempest. The other two title chasers, Republican Rabbits and Moko-Jumbies FC, do battle at Palo Park in another one of the round’s big ties, whilst Limbo Leopards could fall back out of the top half if they lose to the side directly below them, Ajax Oranjestad. Down in the relegation zone spots, both Bajan Boppers and Spicy Doves have a chance to climb out of the bottom four, with Bop 2 da Top travelling to face Redonda Rockys and Big Nutz facing a tough challenge from Suriname Sharks in Grenada.
